Holiday Interviews!

The holidays are coming up! Here’s what the holidays mean to people and their plans for the break! Many holidays such as Boxing Day (Dec. 26, celebrated by the British) , Christmas (Dec. 25, celebrated mainly by Catholic and Christians) , Hanukkah (Dec. 2- Dec. 10,  celebrated by Jewish families), and Kwanzaa (Dec. 26- Jan. 1, celebrated by African Heritage) are all celebrated in December!

“The holidays to me mean celebrating the birth of Christ with family and during Christmas celebrate we spend the day together as a family.” -Rudy Hernandez (8th Grade, shown on left)

“The holidays to me mean spending time with friends and family and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I hang out with my family and friends for the holidays and then we gather for a feast.” -Dev Patel (8th Grade, shown on right)

“I don’t really care about the holidays except when I get money.” -David Hu (8th grade)

“I like the holidays because they are breaks that let you spend time with your family and friends. Every moment must be cherished since the time is limited. During the holidays, I spend time with my family, hang out with friends, and eat a variety of delicious food.” -Jamie Zhu (8th grade)

“The holidays mark the conclusion of a long year. It’s a time to kick back and celebrate with your friends and family. I will celebrate my holidays recovering from a long year with loads of excitement for 2019.” - Kevin Vuong (8th grade)

“The holidays are meant for spending time with family. My family doesn’t really celebrate Christmas but we still have a big dinner filled with red envelopes.” - Vanessa Guan (8th grade)

“Christmas with my family is basically the entire family getting together and going out to eat. After eating we would hang out and exchange gifts between the family.” - Rachel Leung (8th grade)

“The holidays to me is basically everyone coming together and going out to eat, which is how my family spends Christmas every year.” - Stella Sito (8th grade)

“The holidays mean a good time to celebrate and a time for people to come together. To celebrate, I get together with my relatives and we have a dinner together.” -Jamie Lau (7th grade)

“For the holidays, we put the tree up a week in advance and then we go shopping and then on Christmas day we exchange gifts or money.” -Kathleen Costa (8th grade)

“The holidays to me means having the entire family get together and seeing people that live too far to meet up any other day of the year since some live in Texas. Christmas is celebrated in my family by signing our names on a wood table, which is a tradition and we open gifts from Secret Santa. We then give 12 gifts to my great grandma to show how grateful we are that she is still alive. To me, the holidays mean a family gathering and celebrating Jesus.” -Camila Salazar (8th grade)

“The holiday for me is the birth of Christ because I’m Catholic. But I normally celebrate it with my family and we will go to our grandparents house and have another celebration with them and talk about what happened throughout the year.” -Giovanni Gonzalez (8th grade)

“The holidays to me mean getting LEGOs and eating sugar most of the time. Christmas is celebrated in my family but we don’t do anything special besides eat out. Christmas to me specifically is just time off from school work and I plan to forget about school entirely during the break.” -Jason Wong (8th grade)

“The holidays to me mean spending time with the family and celebrating the birth of Jesus. I do celebrate Christmas and my entire family gathers at my house and we eat and enjoy the time together.” -Damaris Valdez (7th grade)

“The holidays mean a time off from work. I don’t officially celebrate any holidays, not even my birthday. I celebrate by not going to work and going to Europe.” -Mr.Evenhouse (7th grade Social Studies and Spanish teacher)
