By: Sammi and Mckayla

Sugar is found in almost every food you eat. There is natural sugar in fruits and added sugar in candy and chocolate. We like sugar, some of us love it. Is sugar a drug? When people take drugs, they are obsessed, they want it more and more. When people consume sugar, they also want it more and more. Sugar becomes a part of your daily life. When you get addicted, it then becomes a habit and you start to rely on it.  You become obsessed with it. Sugar is a drug that can be easily accessed and can be bought by anybody. Sugar acts as a remedy for your emotions which is what drugs do.

When you eat sugar, the limbic system (associated with emotional control) in your brain is affected when you  become addicted to it. As a society, people should control their sugar intake and make sure they don’t become so addicted to it, they become obese. Sugar leads to many health problems. For example, obesity, liver problems (becomes resistant to insulin) and when the sugar in your bloodstream doesn’t convert to energy, your body won’t be able to control your blood sugar which concludes to you having type 2 diabetes. Do you think sugar is a drug? Have we changed your perspective on sugar?
