Looking at artwork is an important part of your artistic development. You will need to complete a Museum/Gallery Report once a semester. The East Bay and San Francisco have an abundance of places to view artwork and links are on my Homepage. If you travel, take the opportunity to see some art! If you visit a museum or gallery with a friend remember that you must choose different pieces of art and do your own work. Plagiarism or Collaboration will receive no credit.
Art I, II and III need to complete the Note-Taking Worksheet which will be used to write your paper.
If you need to turn them in during the weekend, you may either scan or take pictures of the pages and email them – the date & time stamp on the email will be considered your turn-in date.
Bring hard copies next school day.
YOU MUST DO YOUR REPORT ON A 2-D ARTWORK!!!
You must attach PROOF OF YOUR VISIT to your M/G Report.
The due date for Museum/Gallery Reports is given at the start of the Semester. It is due on that date by 3:30pm (Fall) or 9:00am(Spring) without exception. Late Reports will be marked down 10% per day including weekend days. If a paper is turned in after 3:15pm or 9:00am on the Due Date it is late and 10% will be deducted. Turned in late or the day after Due Date is a 10% deduction, 2 days late is a 20% deduction, 3 days is a 30% deduction – after 10 days no credit will be given. If you are not at school on the deadline then scan and email all pages to me, bring hard copies in the next school day, if scan/photos are complete it will be considered turned in according to the date & time stamp of the email – gbailey@piedmont.k12.ca.us
How to write your M/G 2-page paper
Take detailed and insightful Museum/Gallery Report Notes
********This is double spaced with 1″ margins in Times New Roman 12 pt font and will not be accepted if it is not typed. The only things at the top should be your name and period on 1 line – DO NOT write a date, title or anything else. Then hit return and start typing your paper on the next line - 2 page minimum. You will not receive an A if it does not meet the minimum. MLA format your paper should be 3 pages long.***********
Basic Outline – This is an extremely general outline and you may find that you use a different format due to the nature of the work or what you think is most important to discuss. However, all of the elements below should be dealt with in your paper.
Intro Paragraph
What is the context of this work? Where is it located? Who is the artist? Why did you choose it? What is the painting about? page 1 of the Notes
How do the Elements of Art affect the Principles of Design – (Pages 2 and 3 of Notes)
3 Paragraphs – If you only have 2 really strong pairings focus on two instead of three.
Analyze and Interpret the work – (Page 4 of Notes)
Conclusion
Original thought and interpretation
TIPS: Ms. Bailey is available to look over your work or help you during any Tutorial prior to the due date.
If you have less than 2 pages read your writing and see where you could more fully describe the HOW or WHY of what you have written to better support your statements.
2D work only has dimension of height and width. You would not include the depth of the canvas or frame. The only exception is if an object comes out of the front of the painting in a substantial way.
Titles of artwork are italicized.
