Inspired by the ribbon imagery of M.C. Escher and Jaume Montserrat you will depict an endangered animal and communicate the reason for its struggle. Use a limited palette and desaturated color with activated negative space. Check out World Wildlife Fund
RESEARCH – Decide upon an Endangered or Extinct animal. What does the animal look like? Print out an image. What aspects of its environment contributed to its demise? Print out imagery or sketch as appropriate. Keep track of your citations.
THINK – How can you communicate to the viewer? How can you communicate if the animal is endangered or extinct? How can you communicate what threatens it or caused its extinction?
COMPOSE – Figure out where ribbons could exist that will balance the composition and be dynamic. Do at least 4 thumbnail sketches and 2 detailed sketches - Get feedback from your peers during this process
FINALIZE & DRAW – Pitch your idea to Ms. Bailey with a fully developed proposal in your sketchbook.
