Planning should happen in your sketchbook, but could look different depending on your studio process. Write the following in your planner and check them off as your idea develops. Be sure that your planning answers all of these.
How does my idea demonstrate space? List at least 2 ways (_______________________________ and _______________________________ )
Can my idea be drawn with ink through line and pattern? Draw at least 5 patterns or types of lines in your sketchbook.
Is my idea original? If I used images that are not my own how did I change them? Could I change them more?
Would this idea look better horizontal or vertical?
Is the composition interesting? Is the subject in the center? - shift it. Does my image stretch to 3 sides? Is the image pushing beyond the picture plain?
There is a variety of ways in which to start your project, but you taking initiative and creating something that interests you is what is most important and will lead to you being more invested in your artwork and having more fun!
Brainstorm words - nouns or verbs that you connect with
grab a narrative from a favorite song or literary reference
Then write down 3 ways that the idea could be shown visually
See if any could be combined
Speak to your peers - they have good ideas!
Gather your inspirations on Pinterest and/or in your sketchbook
