Monotype is a type of printmaking that appeals to painters for its ability to be very gestural. Starting with black ink and then branching out with color, you will create prints based on your own photographs or drawings addressing:
YOU WILL BE PRINTING FOR 2 WEEKS. ALL monotypes will be turned in - even if it didn't work out as you wanted it to. A MINIMUM OF 3 Prints will be turned in. The best 3 will be graded - I want to see experimentation, effort, and growth in seeing ALL of the prints.
Required Image
Pear - Prop pears are located on the back counter. Make sure that it has a figure/ground relationship (is NOT FLOATING)
Options for Subjects or Propose your own idea - ALL REFERENCE IMAGES MUST BE ORIGINAL - YOU HAVE TO HAVE TAKEN THE IMAGE or it is completely abstract
Song/Poem/Story illustration - tell a story with an image
Landscapes or Cityscape (focus on shape & value)
Object(s) inside (focus on form, Texture & mood) - Consider placing 3 objects together or take an image of an interior space that includes 3 objects
Ex: Ms. Bailey would use her coffee cup or a small figurine of a horse
Awkward or emotional portrait - wacky face, wrinkles
Your Choice (Focus on EXPRESSIVE LINE)
Be sure to look at the plexiglass plates available to you for planning the size of your reference.
