Inquiry Question:
How can I elevate a banal object with a limited palette on a color ground through +/- space?
Duration of Project: 1 school week
PREPARE
Create a collage ground - focus on transparent elements - LAYERS of paper to develop your drawing over
Tool(s) - Think about the way that Jim Dine considered positive & negative space.
The objective here is that you will make both the negative and positive space interesting.
BANAL - What Pop artists like Dine did was take everyday boring overlooked objects and elevated their importance through rendering them in art.
Take a close look at everyday tools that you take for granted and consider their form and design.
How do they open or close? Occupy space?
Make it interact with your constructed ground in a way that elevates the object!
Blog Reflection Questions - Address all of these questions through one full PARAGRAPH with specific examples from your art or process.
Did you enjoy the process involved in this work? (What did you enjoy, what was frustrating, what would you do differently)
What was successful in your drawing? (Neg vs. Positive, rendering of object, relationship between objects and/or their background)
