The Hat
Lesson one of two:
The teacher will read the story to the students. Then, they will retell the
story in sequence while using puppets of the characters in the story. Connections
will be made with the type of animal and with the the verb (goose honked, cat
meowed, etc.) that described the animal noise. They will also answer the question,
"When the other animals wore clothes from the clothes line, why was it a
compliment to the hedgehog?"
Each student will stand in a circle, pick a hat to wear from the center of the circle
and put it behind him/her. The student wearing the hat will call on the other students
with their hand raised to give them compliments about their hat.
Lesson two of two:
Share and tell: The students will share the picture of the hat that they created at
home. The student that shares will call on other students when they raise their
hand to ask a question about their hat.
The hedghog was criticized/teased for wearing the hat. The students will talk about
how they think the hedge hog felt. Then, they will listen to a short story from a
"Social Chipper Chat" game about "Complements vs Criticism." Afterwards,
they will answer questions about the story ranging from literal to inferential.
They will also share about a time that they were teased and tell how they felt.
