The Doorbell Rang

Lesson Plan:

Week 1:

  • The students will do a math obstacle course by

jumping on and labeling numerals, making a pattern

with shaped cookies, and crossing the balance beam

making the /k/ or hard /c/ sound for cookie.

  • The teacher will read The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins.

This is a great book for paired reading. The students will

“read” “the doorbell rang” when it occurs in the book.

  • The students will use paper cookies to retell the book

and determine how many cookies each person will get

as more friends come to visit. This activity helps children

with counting as well as sharing skills. We will talk about

how they feel when they have to share the cookies.

  • Share the news: The students will share their favorite

part of group.

Lesson 2:

  • The students will take turns using money to buy pretend cookies in a fun rhyme. This is a simple addition and subtraction activity to build early math skills.
