Pete the Cat

Week 1/2:

This week, we'll be reading "Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes"

by Eric Litwin and art by Janes Dean.

*Practice sorting "p" and "b" objects as a group so they hear the

difference between the two sounds. The two sounds are produced

exactly the same with the lips together, but air comes out of the mouth

for the "p" and stops at the throat for the "b." The children will practice

feeling the air with their hand and seeing it while holding a tissue in

front of their mouths.

*Listening to the book paired to music so the children can sing along

with the story. This helps children formulate complete, expanded

fluent sentences.

*Rapidly naming pictures of clothes and fruit to increase rapid word

retrieval of categories of items. By taking a break between naming

clothes and fruits, it makes recalling the words easier.

Week 2/2:

Instead of naming and sorting "p" and "b" objects, the children will do the activity with picture cards.

They retell the story of Pete the Cat as a group.

The other elements of the first session of Pete the Cat will remain the same as children learn through repetition and practice.
