Officer Buckle and Gloria

Lesson one of one:

1.) Officer Buckle's safety presentation is so dull at Napville Elementary that it puts

audiences to sleep. Officer Buckle's new police dog, Gloria, who stands behind him,

mimes the dire consequences and accidents involved. Buckle is surprised to see the

children suddenly so attentive, applauding and laughing. Each time he checks on

Gloria, she is sitting at attention. Once a news team videotapes Gloria's comedy

routine. Officer Buckle learns that Gloria has been stealing the show. Gloria soon

goes solo, and not only does she flop without him, but Napville Elementary has its

biggest accident ever. Buckle and Gloria need each other!

2.) The students will talk about making safe and unsafe choices. . Then they will make a

list of safe and unsafe actions.

Lesson two of two:

1.) The students will listen to the rules presented. After they recall one rule presented by

another peer, he/she will present his/her safety book to the group of peers.

2.) Re-read Officer Buckle and Gloria. While the students answer questions about the

book while using their story champs symbols of story elements of:

  • Character

  • Setting

  • Problem

  • Feeling

  • Idea

  • Action

  • Resolution
