Survey 123

ArcGIS Survey123 is an intuitive and simple way of collecting data with your mobile device. It is the easiest to set up of the three we will be covering today.

Pros:

- User friendly, intuitive. No need to learn GIS to be a user of the app

- Survey can be shared outside Clemson (best option for public data collection)

- Can collect data offline

- Data securely stored in the cloud

- Can edit previous records collected

- Highly customizable

Cons:

- Cannot collect more than one layer at a time

- Does not collect automatically device input (speed, direction, etc)

1. Filling Out a Survey: Where are your clothes from?

I have created a survey for all of you to fill out. Take a look at the tag on several pieces of clothing you are wearing and fill out the form on this link: https://arcg.is/1iKKGf

Here is a map with the results combined with a choropleth dataset of countries by GINI Index (measures the extent to which the distribution of income among individuals or households within an economy deviates from a perfectly equal distribution. A Gini index of 0 represents perfect equality, while an index of 100 implies perfect inequality: https://arcg.is/K9SLP

2. Creating Your Clothes Survey

Let's replicate the survey and map following the instructions below.

Open up a browser and navigate to survey123.arcgis.com. Log in with your arcgis online account. Alternatively, you can log into AGOL and in the grid button, select Survey123.

Click on the + New survey button.

Select USING THE WEB DESIGNER, select Get started.

2.1 What is your major/field of expertise?

Let's add our first question. Drag the Singleline Text button to the left of the screen:

- Label: type What is your major/field of expertise?

- Validation: check the box for This is a required question.

- Other: check Cache answer so the previous answers are stored in memory

Click Save at the bottom of the window. Return to the Add menu.

2.2 How young are you?

Select the Number button and drag it to its left under question 1 (major/field of expertise).

- Label: type How young are you?

- Hint: type Enter your age as a number. Example: 21.

- Validation: check the box for This is a required question and Must be an integer.

- Other: check Cache answer so the previous answers are stored in memory

Click Save at the bottom of the window. Return to the Add menu.

2.3 Type of clothing

Select the Dropdown button and drag it to its left under question 2.

- Label: type Type of clothing

- Choices: type shoes, shirt/t-shirt, and pants as option 3. Click on the + button to add one more choice: type sweater/hoodie

- Validation: check the box for This is a required question.

Click Save at the bottom of the window. Return to the Add menu.

2.4 Where was it made?

Select the Map button and drag it to its left under question 3.

- Label: type Where was it made?

- Hint: type Enter the country name in the Find address or place box

- Map and extent: change the map from Topographic to Charted Territory Map.

- Validation: check the box for This is a required question.

Click Save at the bottom of the window. Return to the Add menu.

2.5 Carbon footprint

Select the Likert button and drag it to its left under question 4.

- Label: type How much does your carbon footprint weighs on purchasing products?

- Maximum value: select 3 options: A lot, Somewhat, Very little/none

- Validation: check the box for This is a required question.

Click Save at the bottom of the window.

2.6 Overall settings

2.6.1 Appearance

Click the Appearance option in the top menu. Select whichever theme you prefer.

2.6.2 Thank You Screen

Go to the Options menu. Check the box next to Show message to prompt the user to submit another record.

2.6.3 Survey title

On the top left corner, click on Untitled survey. Change it to Clothes survey Fall 2021 by YourName. Hit Enter.

Let's change the title users see on their screen. Click on Survey title not set. In the Survey Header window, under Text, type Where are your clothes from?

Click Save at the bottom of the window. Then click the Publish button to make it shareable.

2.6.3 Sharing your survey

On the top menu, go to the Collaborate button. Notice there is a link that you can share with yourself to test the survey on your mobile device.

Under the Who can submit to this survey? option, check Everyone (public). This allows anybody with the link to submit to your survey.

3. Exploring the results of your survey

Fill out your survey at least 5 times so you can get some data to view the results.

In the ArcGIS Survey123 web designer, go to the Analyze button to see a quick summary of responses.

The Data tab allows you to view the data on a map, create an interactive map, and export the records in tabular format.
