Video Creation Fundamentals

Rush makes creating videos simple and fun. But before you start using the application, it’s useful to consider these guiding principles:

1. The Message. What is the key message you are trying to convey? What is the call to action for your viewers? Keep that front and center. How will you tell that story in 60 seconds?

2. Duration. 60 seconds. No more, no less. Keep in mind the golden triangle of the 1-minute video.

3. Music. Choose a track that you think fits the message you are trying to convey. Spend time picking carefully. Music will set the pace and tone for your video.

4. 100-150 words. Write these words first. This should be the narrative or V/O for your story. Do not write more than 150 words MAX. Even if you plan interviews, define what you would ideally have the speaker say, in advance.

5. Video Footage. Consider what footage you will now need to cover the 150-word story you have written. This guides what you capture, what you don’t, your needs for Stock footage, graphics and other considerations.
