Creative Inquiry: Kidney Stones

Welcome to the CCGT website for Dr. David Ladner's Creative Inquiry: Kidney Stones class.

The tutorials will guide you step-by-step through importing a map image of the Spartanburg Water Districs as a GIS raster (Georeferencing Tutorial), how to create a vector polygon layer containing the water district boundaries (Digitizing Tutorial), and using intersection overlay methods to find which zip codes are serviced by which water districts (Intersection Tutorial).

The example data, Powerpoint slides, and sample ArcMap document for this class can be found in the LadnerCI folder on the Libstorage drive, which can be accessed from any computer on the Clemson network. Instructions for connecting to the libstorage drive can be viewed/downloaded in the PDF at the bottom of the page.

In the LadnerCI\Results folder, you will find the SpartanburgResults.gdb geodatabase. The geodatabase contains both the sample data and results.

The sample data include:

  1. The county boundary polygons, Counties_SC.

  2. The ZipDistricts feature class, containing the zip code boundaries for South Carolina.

The results are:

  1. A raster dataset called SpburgWater_georef.tif which is the georeferenced water districts map.

  2. A polygon feature class called WaterDistricts representing the district boundaries.

  3. A polygon feature class called ZipDistricts, with the zip codes clipped to the district boundary.

The ArcMap document, KidneyStonesCI, contains all of these data layers for your reference.
