Cooperative Read

1. Place students in groups of 3 to 5.
2. Give each student in the group a different excerpt from a reading.
3. Students read their excerpt and provide a summary to their group in round-robin fashion.
4. The group then writes a short summary of the entire piece and their interpretation. You might ask students to shorten the summary to just one statement that summarizes the group's ideas about the reading.
5. Groups share out their short summaries.
