Fist to Five

Decision Making & Voting -- check-in, gain consensus, and/or vote to understand where learners stand on an issue or idea.

  1. Pose a question
  2. Count 1, 2, 3 vote!
  3. Each person votes using 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 fingers
  4. Facilitator looks around to tally the votes or to gain the learners consensus.

Alternative Use:

  • Use the same steps above except assign a meaning to each number.
    • example: (0) "I don't get it", (1) - “I need help”, (2) - "I could use more practice", (3) - "I think I understand, but I'm not completely sure", (4) - "I understand", (5) - “I completely understand and can explain it”
