Essential Learner Outcomes
SO.APCG.1 - The students will compare the concepts of state, nation, regime, and government through discussions about legitimacy, authority, and bases of political power.
SO.APCG.2 - The students will examine the preconditions, processes and outcomes of transition to democracy and reflect on conditions that lead to breakdowns of authoritarian regimes.
SO.APCG.3 - The students will explain the relationship between sources of authority, political power, and governance.
SO.APCG.4 - The students will analyze the political culture, core values, and beliefs of countries and how these values are fostered and disseminated through the process of political socialization.
SO.APCG.5 - Characterize the advantages and drawbacks of different institutional arrangements and understand how executive and legislative policymakers interact with other branches of the state apparatus.
SO.APCG.6 - Understand how political elites are recruited and how political preferences are aggregated
SO.APCG.7 - The students will explore ways in which states manage and respond to deeply held divisions among their citizens.
