It is extremely important that only Pre-K, K, and first use the assigned grade level username & passwords (we will completely phase this out next year if possible). The other students have been painstakingly placed in the computer with their own usernames and passwords so that they can learn how to log on to a network with their own identity. This was started in 2003 when we entered the TARGET grant and each child had to be identified by the computer for keeping track of their scores in classserver AND for GradeSpeed. It is also a part of their TEKS.
We need your help to bring us up to speed with this effort. If students have forgotten their passwords from last year we can have each teacher assign a password for their class (or classroom or grade level) and we will put it in the computer that way. BUT each child must remember their own username.
It is easy to understand…. The usernames start with their graduation year….then first 5 letters of their last name (if they have 5 letters or more) and finally their first initial.
EXAMPLE John Smithson graduating in 2017 would have a username of 17smithsj
We can send a list of the usernames as soon as each teacher decides what PASSWORD they would like their class to use. What needs to happen is the teachers send us the usernames with their desired password….we will let you know when that passwords will be effective through email. REMEMBER, each student with a unique username is required to be taught the AUP and must have taken the test (also part of the grade-level TEKS) and passed it for their grade level. These are found at: http://www.arp.sprnet.org/default/tech/technology.htm#AUP_TESTS Under AUP Training for all Ages.
You may do the passwords ANYWAY you like for now….for instance … if you want to send us a list of usernames with the 4 digit code they use at lunch that is ALSO fine….we DON’t care as long as each student is identified individually by their OWN login and they USE this login each time they are at a computer. Sissy will help you in anyway that you need. Please feel free to let us know any issues that you have. Gradelevel assigned usernames have been abused. It is a security risk issue to have more than one student logon with the same username. If you remember, we had some inappropriate surfers in the 4th grade (among others) who were difficult to track down in years past because of the single account. Our commitment must be to good network practices.
