Roundout Creek

the Hudson River School

To honor the past I took a trip to the mouth of the Delaware and Hudson Canal at Roundout Creek, Kingston, NY.

The Mary Powell Steamship was the Queen of the steamers during the 1800's commuting passengers between Kingston and N.Y.C. The painting beautifully depicts her in front of the steamboat repair shops of Thomas Cornell. At 22 he had moved to Roundout to ship coal between PA and NYC and also bought the Mary Powell.

My drone shot is at the same location showing the steamboat repair buildings which are now the Ole Savannah Southern Talble and Bar and the Tivoli Sailing Charters. It's a beautiful destination with the Trolley Museum & rides, Sailing School, Ship building and Maritime Museum (free for Vets).

Old college buddy Pete and I have had several nice lunches on the deck here . The southern food and craft beers are delicious.

The Savannah is a favorite restaurant of mine so before lunch I met the proprietor David Amato, who let me actually launch the drone inside to get a wide angle shot. Beams above to hoist the old steamboat parts. So solid.

Walked down to the Roundout Lighthouse for the rest of the shots. Met an old DEC co-worker by chance. Mohonk Mountain on left and roundout creek channel.

From shore the drone will readily capture the angle of what you want. In an earlier life we did water quality surveys up and down the Hudson and up Roundout Cree & tribs.

Thru the museum you can take boat tours and go inside the lighthouse. Rhinecliff Bridge across Hudson River upstream.
