Grass River Boatworks

carbon fiber technology

So light a child can lift it. Made of high strength lightweight space age carbon fiber it appeals to engineer types. Lucas and I decided to take a test ride in my Craig's List solo canoe. We launched on Ballston Creek, went out in Round Lake for a quick paddle.

This boat was originally purchased from the Grass River Boatworks in Canton, NY for a Penn State Master's Degree thesis in 2001. Becky used the canoe to survey paddler satisfaction in remote areas of the Adirondacks. Her Pfaffenbach family has long been involved in natural resources.

We easily carry the 13 foot, 20 pound craft to the creek. I'll be able to readily access many more water opportunities now.

He was a quick learner and we got the tandem paddling synchronized stoking method down as we approached the lake. He's wearing Colleen's hat and Christies 25 year old life preserver.

The beaver house was interesting and he wanted to make sure I photographed it but he wondered what we'd do if the beaver came out.

We crossed the mighty rubicon then Lucas led the way back to home base. He wanted to keep going but I had had enough of the paddle clinking and wanted to quit while we were ahead.

As we came back in the weeds were interesting to him wondering "Are they alive".

Coming back upstream to our launch site Mom awaits the safe return of child, not wanting to spoil Mother's Day.

We completed the journey without any dunkings or ill feelings. Lucas was a gamer. We chalked it up to a successful mission.

With this boat maybe I'll be able to capture some great shots in the remote areas of the Adirondack Mountains just like Carl Heilman.

The Saint Regis Canoe Area and Saranac Lake Wild Forest were part of the study and the most popular areas for ultralight pack canoes.

Maybe I'll do an Oswegatchie River excursion as in this video.

My primary goal is in the Boreas Ponds Wilderness of the Adirondacks.   Boreas Ponds Video and Henderson Lake .
