Yet again the 4H Kennel was blessed with perfect running weather...rain. Rainy weather meant many hounds were absent from the chase. However, those brave enough to get wet (or those who don't mind running in ponchos) were out in force in Ebisu.

The Hares were off at 1500 sharp while the Hounds waited in anticipation of what Safety First argued would be an "easy catch." After 15 minutes of waiting the Hounds took off after their prey. Both Hares were either crafty or lucky as they took the trail through some of the more slippery areas around Ebisu and Shirokane. The initial dash to get after them was slowed as a result, no one wanting to fall on their rears by slipping on some steps.

The Hares had prefaced the run by stating the trail would be going by some embassies and if Hounds could identify them all, there would be a small prize to claim at the finish. After losing us in the neighborhoods East of Ebisu station, the Hares made quick trail toward the neighborhoods where many of us knew the embassies were located. The hills were not too daunting as much of the trail was through a very urban area. The few hills we encountered around the embassies were short enough to quickly dash through.

After passing by the French and German Embassies the Hounds followed the hash into Arisugawa-no-miya Memorial Park. There was some small confusion as the park trails diverged in all manner of directions. However, the Hounds were quickly back on the trail and after those craft Hares. Crossing the road from Minamiazabu the Hounds entered Hiroo and some of the more luxurious homes of the dense Tokyo metro area. Cutting quickly through Hiroo the Hounds passed Oman and Peru embassies, and then crossed the canal back into Ebisu. At this point enough Hounds knew the way to Ebisu station. So, flying straight to the finish was simple.

Throughout the run, it was apparent that nobody was going to catch the Hares. They successfully evaded even the FRB efforts of Safety First, who decided to make the most of the run and meander off on an extra 2KM just for fun. After a bit of mockery at his failed attempt to lead the pack and catch the Hares, as well as a small circle to give the Hares their just rewards for too few checks and of course a horrible trail, the Hash was off to our On-After at Amapola Mediterranean Restaurant.

The dinner was a mix of various Mediterranean cuisines. Starting with prosciutto, we were treated then to a Greek salad, some frittata, sausages and potato wedges, sautéed shrimp, and lastly a heaping platter of paella. All washed down with jokes, stories, and nomihōdai, the Hash was satisfied that the Hares had done a great job at not only setting a trail, but also lining up a delicious repast.

Next month the pressure will be on for Sweetie and the 4H annual BBQ Hash.

On-On,

Just Cumming
