Stacy Friedman and Andrew Stearns
Jewett Art Gallery
August 31 - October 2, 2026
One of the latest in a long lineage of independent, artist-run printmaking studios in Massachusetts, New Impressions Print Studio, based in Somerville, MA, is a 3,000+ square foot space offering classes, workshops, community art events, contract and collaborative printing services, and a membership program that allows local artists access to a printmaking workspace. Studio co-founders Stacy Friedman and Andrew Stearns met at MassArt in Boston and were already deeply engaged with the local printmaking community before starting on the journey to open their own studio.
Work/Shop: the making of New Impressions Print Studio is an exhibition that tells just some of the story of turning an emptied-out former commercial bakery and a dream into the busy, vibrant art space that it is today. Photos of the studio under construction and as it is today show how much work and community involvement is necessary for independent artists undertaking a project of this scale. Objects from the studio speak both to its day-to-day operations and the history of printmaking in New England. Prints by Friedman and Stearns are on display alongside collaborative professional artist prints produced in the studio and work by community members.
This exhibition will be on view in the Jewett Art Gallery from August 31 - October 2, 2026. The Gallery, located on the main floor of the Jewett Arts Center at Wellesley College, is open to the public Thursday - Sunday, 12:00 - 5:00 pm, or by appointment.
A reception celebrating the exhibition and the artists will be held on Thursday September 17 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.
The Gallery is free to visit. Visitors should plan to park in the Davis Parking Facility and walk to the Jewett Arts Center from there. See the campus map for details. Visitors requiring handicapped accessible parking closer to the building should contact the Gallery Director for directions.
