Spring 2024 was my first semester taking an art class at Wellesley. I have always dabbled in art, however. From taking pictures with my parents' cameras from a very young age, learning screen printing, wood carving, and other printmaking techniques in high school, doodling with friends and in my notebooks, drawing postcards for loved ones, and now taking sculpture and learning to work with different materials such as wood, plaster, metal, and fabric, I see my journey with art as never-ending, curious and explorative. I hope to take what I've learned in this sculpture course into other art endeavors in the future, and continue to use art as a medium for conveying thought.

Grounded is meant to be a commentary on how we should take more time looking at what's below us. There is so much to see in soil: an entangled network of roots that collide and nurture one another. The telescope, often used to look at the stars, pointed towards the pear close to the ground is a reminder that looking for wonder in what's in the ground can be inspiring too.
