I took up printmaking, a new method of generating art for me, in order to explore the process of understanding our world through layers of ink and experiences. When coming up with a concept for art, I always start with nature and soak in the details of my environment as my inspiration. This year, I tried different mediums of art to interact with and respond to the world in ways I hadn't imagined before, stretching my creativity through the embodiment of time, work, and love. All my pieces are an expression of love for nature and my desire to make visible the intersection of humans interacting with the world.

This piece was inspired by the tiling of the roof of Pendleton West. Each tile was a unique color of grey and had unique signs of weathering. I wanted to capture all these elements -- variation, pattern, neutral colors, ageing, fading, and the dimension of time -- through the process of printmaking. Each layer of the prints was created using a different technique, as a response to the different types of weathering and shaping the tiles experienced. Through digitalization of my prints, I've been able to generate a multitude of roof tile prints on sturdy paper, creating a 3D overlapping structure that celebrates roof tiles as a form of construction and art.
