I am a video artist who uses experimental and surrealist techniques to give meaning to the mundane, presenting everyday occurrences as events to be investigated and critiqued. I attempt to reframe the ordinary with endurance pieces that manipulate time and are inherently contemplative, yet often disorienting in the unresolved anticipation they instill upon the viewer. Some of my past work features re-interpretations of daily routine, internal monologue, and the passage of time. Another motif in my films is the multiple—I often appear as a character in my own work, forcing the viewer to consider the self and its multiplicities.

This project attempts to extend the themes of my past work while considering the added gravity of the current state of the world. Now more than ever the passage of time is evaluated, mourned, and agonized over, and the pace of my film exaggerates this phenomenon. This film is composed from footage shot intermittently over several years, and I appear in this film as I existed at those points in time, a reflection on the coalescence of various fragments of my identity as a significant period of my life comes to an end. Another prominent character in this work is an orange tree from a neighbor’s backyard, a marker of bygone youth and the fragrance of memory. I hope to capture the surreal quality of life as it exists right now and bring to life the intense dreams that bookend my days.
