pre-COVID restrictions went back into effect on October 1, 2025.
This means that telehealth is no longer covered under federally funded programs such as Medicare, VA, and BCBS Federal. If a patient prefers to continue using telehealth with one of these plans, we’ll need to have them sign an ABN before billing insurance. Otherwise, we can offer a prompt pay option instead.
The good news is that commercial insurance plans are not affected. Under Colorado Revised Statute 10-16-123, health benefit plans (including dental) must continue to cover telehealth services the same as in-person visits when telehealth is appropriate. These plans also cannot require an in-person visit if telehealth would be suitable.
