Whenever a villager is walking or performing an action, they can become hungry. Hunger takes points away from the Villager's food bar and will always be a negative value. Eating increases the bar and is a positive value.
While a Villager is walking, they have a 1 in 50 chance every game tick of gaining a -1 hunger value.
Casting a heal or bless on a Villager costs -6 hunger points.
Chopping a tree down costs -1 hunger for every 2 logs in a tree.
Casting growth on a crop or tree costs -2 hunger points, but casting Earth Reform to fill a Mineshaft costs -8 hunger points.
Feeding or harvesting produce from an animal costs -3 hunger points.
Farmer actions have a variety of hunger costs:
Using a melee attack or the super whammy jammy attack costs -1 hunger points.
Leading an animal to the Butcher Structure costs -1 hunger points and has a 1 in 8 chance of occurring every 30 ticks while leading.
Butchering an animal costs a flat -6 hunger points.
Performing, whether in the Tavern or while wandering around the Village, costs -6 hunger points.
Miners lose -1 hunger points for every block they mine.
While teaching School, a Teacher loses -1 hunger points every time he moves to a new position (roughly once every 400 game ticks, or 20 seconds).
Any time a villager crafts an item, they will gain hunger. The amount of hunger varies based on which item is being crafted and how skilled the Villager is.
A skill 1 Villager will gain the max hunger value, while a skill 100 will gain the least. Villagers of skill levels in between will gain an amount of hunger in between the two values. This is a solid linear scale between the two.
Eating food will fill a Villager's hunger bar. Different foods give different values; if an item is not a Villager item (white text instead of green) it will provide half the benefits listed. Click here to see the amount of happiness for each food item. They will start to eat food when they are at 30 hunger points or less.
