Learning for Life Programme (LLP): Community Youth Leadership

Springfield Secondary School’s Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Community Youth Leadership aims to nurture responsible and compassionate leaders who serve the community with integrity and empathy.

Through a structured curriculum and rich experiential learning opportunities, students develop essential leadership competencies such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. The programme encourages students to apply their strengths and values in serving the community, fostering a strong sense of purpose and social responsibility.

Aligned with the school’s core values of Service, Tenacity, Respect, Integrity, Diligence, and Empathy (S.T.R.I.D.E), the LLP empowers students to become confident leaders who make a positive impact in society.

Tier 1: Level-wide Values-in-Action (VIA) Programme

All Springfielders participate in age-appropriate community engagement activities designed to instil empathy and social awareness.

• Secondary 1: Students visit and engage with children at Sparkletots, learning the importance of care and patience through intergenerational bonding.
  
  

• Secondary 2: Students connect with elderly residents through inter-generational programmes, promoting respect and appreciation for Singapore’s seniors.
  
  

• Secondary 3: Students take part in community clean-up initiatives in the Tampines neighbourhood, fostering a sense of ownership and environmental responsibility.
  
  

Tier 2: Student Leadership Development

Selected student leaders undergo deeper training and community involvement through collaborations with external partners such as Temasek Junior College, Bedok Youth Network, and South East CDC.

A key highlight is the “Rise to the Occasion” event, where students:

• Organise and run interactive game booths,
  
  

• Lead exercise sessions with the elderly, and
  
  

• Participate in the “Walk of Rice” initiative, distributing groceries to families in need.
  
  

Through these experiences, student leaders refine their leadership skills, demonstrate empathy in action, and contribute meaningfully to the wider community.

Outcome

The Community Youth Leadership LLP develops Springfielders into servant leaders who lead with heart, uphold integrity, and act with empathy. They are inspired to serve, influence, and make a difference—living out the spirit of lifelong learning and community care.
