Together We Keep Singapore Strong:
Total Defence Day at SFSS
In 2025, Springfield Secondary marked Total Defence Day (TDD) and SG60 with a series of meaningful schoolwide experiences designed to strengthen our students’ readiness, resilience, and understanding of Singapore’s evolving security landscape.
The year’s theme, “Together We Keep Singapore Strong,” served as a timely reminder that every Singaporean has a part to play in safeguarding our nation especially during disruptions such as misinformation, food supply challenges, or environmental pressures.
On 19 February 2025, the school gathered for an impactful assembly featuring a theatrical performance that brought to life stories from the Japanese Occupation. Based on oral history accounts, the performance highlighted how communities endured hardship through unity and resilience.
As part of the cohort-level Museum-Based Learning experience, all Secondary 2 students visited the ‘Artefactually Speaking’ exhibit at the National Museum of Singapore. Supported by our Humanities Department, students explored historical artefacts through guided inquiry, deepening their understanding of wartime Singapore, citizenship, and the shared narratives that shape our national identity.
In partnership with the EcoSTEM Committee and our canteen vendors, the school also held a Meat-Free Day where students sampled a variety of plant-based dishes and engaged in recess activities promoting sustainability and food resilience. This initiative aligned with the Total Defence pillar of Economic and Environmental Defence, demonstrating how small, everyday choices can contribute to a more sustainable and crisis-ready Singapore.
Total Defence Day 2025 not only strengthened Springfielders’ understanding of Singapore’s past, but also empowered them to act responsibly in the present. Through historical learning and sustainability initiatives, our students gained a deeper appreciation of the shared responsibility we hold in keeping Singapore strong.
