Boys Brigade

This year marks a special milestone for the 23rd Company of The Boys’ Brigade in Singapore (currently hosted in Springfield Secondary School) as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of our founding in 1965. The Company has remained faithful to the motto of nurturing sure and steadfast young men grounded in strong values. Through discipline, self-respect, and physical fitness, our members grow holistically while taking part in a wide range of activities—from outdoor adventures to meaningful community engagement.

Throughout the year, our Boys undergo structured training that equips them with essential skills and memorable experiences. Enrolment for new secondary 1 members welcomes them into the community, fostering a sense of purpose and belonging from the start. The St John First Aid Course equips them with life-saving knowledge, while Blaze challenges them physically and mentally as they complete demanding checkpoints while adhering to high standards of decorum in speech and action. During our Values-in-Action project in partnership with Methodist Welfare Services, the Boys learn to cater to and care for the elderly as they plan and execute meaningful activities that bring joy and companionship during Family Day 2025.

Adventure and teamwork also takes centre stage. For the annual Expedition, the Boys learn to plot checkpoints and navigate using maps and landmarks, building resilience and confidence. Campcraft skills, such as Knots and Lashing and Field Cooking prepares them to be alert and inventive, seeking synergy in problem-solving and supporting one another.

In the Global Awareness modules, Boys also have a chance to deepen their knowledge and empathy for others as they broaden their understanding of the world and discover how they can play a part in making a positive difference.  The Character Quest increases their biblical knowledge through interactive games, while there is also the opportunity for friendly competition with other Companies in the east region through the year-end Cluster Games.

Overall, the Boys’ Brigade journey gives our members numerous opportunities to learn and grow, developing core values such as teamwork and camaraderie, discovering their strengths, and finding a platform to shine in many different areas. We continue to honour our heritage while guiding every Boy to become a responsible and compassionate leader of tomorrow.
