Sec 2 GEP– SFSS BOLEH
The Sec 2 Global Education Programme (GEP) this year brought our students to Sabah and Penang, where they engaged deeply with local communities, cultures, industries, and environments. Beyond the sights and activities, the spirit that emerged from this journey was captured in one word: BOLEH — our belief that with heart, courage, and teamwork, anything is possible. This became #SFSSboleh, representing how our students lived out the values of growth, resilience, and unity throughout the journey.
Students believed in themselves as they took on new challenges, from navigating early flights and long bus rides to stepping into unfamiliar school environments. Many learned to trust their own independence—setting their own alarms, keeping track of belongings, and managing their daily routines across borders. Their confidence grew each day as they learned to rely on themselves and one another.
The journey was not without its hurdles—tight schedules, unexpected weather, steep walkways, crowded heritage zones, and long travel hours. Yet students adapted and pressed on with good humour.
In Sabah, they tackled the long mountainous journey to Kundasang and explored the processes behind dairy production at Desa Cattle Farm and logistical innovation at 99 Speedmart HQ.
In Penang, they navigated busy streets and steep hills, and took on the precision and patience required during batik painting. Through every challenge, they discovered that perseverance and positivity made difficult moments doable—and meaningful.
Leadership emerged in big and small ways. Students took initiative during group tasks, guided peers during heritage walks, assisted teachers during transitions, and ensured everyone stayed safe and accounted for.
Whether facilitating group reflections during debriefs or helping classmates who felt unwell, students demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and initiative. Their ability to lead with empathy and calmness strengthened the community around them.
Encouragement became the heartbeat of both trips. Students cheered one another on during cultural immersion activities, helped friends manage homesickness, and lifted group morale during long days.
In Penang, they supported one another during intricate batik work, celebrating each other’s creativity. In Sabah, they bonded over shared experiences at Mari Mari Cultural Village, Kinabalu Park, and school immersion activities, offering support whenever someone needed it. Their kindness created an environment where everyone felt included, safe, and appreciated.
At the core of #SFSSboleh was a strong sense of community. Students looked out for their roommates, checked on one another during walks, shared snacks, filled water bottles for friends, and made sure no one walked alone.
Through immersion programmes in both Sabah and Penang, they stepped respectfully into the lives of others—learning to appreciate different perspectives while holding space for one another’s thoughts and reflections. They returned more grounded, more empathetic, and more aware of what it means to care for a community.
Across both destinations, students immersed themselves in rich learning experiences:
understanding sustainability and innovation through visits to Desa Dairy Farm, Penang Tropical Fruit Farm, and 99 Speedmart HQ,
experiencing artistic expression through batik painting,
strengthening global awareness during school immersion programmes, and
deepening cultural understanding through heritage, historical, and environmental explorations.
Beyond the itinerary, the most meaningful outcome was how much our students grew—more confident, more resilient, more empathetic, and more connected as a cohort.
This GEP trip was not just about going to Sabah or Penang. It was about living out what it means to Believe, Overcome, Lead, Encourage, and Hold one another up.
That is the true spirit of SFSS BOLEH.
