Abstract

Plant-based repellents have been traditionally used for personal protection against various mosquito species, including Anopheles. This study evaluates the efficacy of a natural mosquito and tick repellent derived from plant-based ingredients, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic products. The formulation includes essential oils and lemongrass, combined with natural vanilla extract and filtered water. These ingredients provide insect-repelling properties while ensuring the product is safe and pleasant for users, as bamboo and pomegranate’s aroma is known to repel mosquitoes. Our ingredients also provided preserved healthy minerals due to filtered water, Natural vanilla extract to allow our users to use our product on their skin as it contains Antibacterial and Vitamin B and lastly, lemon grass contains the compound called, citronella that helps to mask the scents that mosquitoes rely on to target hosts which is carbon dioxide and lactic acid. This study investigates the efficiency of natural mosquito and tick repellents derived from plant-based sources, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative. Our product was prepared and tested against mosquito and tick species in controlled environments, demonstrating promising results in repelling both pests effectively. This study highlights the potential of plant-based repellents in reducing reliance on synthetic chemicals and promoting eco-friendly management.
