Abstract
This study explores the factors affecting the active engagement of the junior high school learners of Siena College of San Jose, Inc. during Eucharistic Celebration. As a Dominican Catholic institution, Eucharistic Celebration is an essential part of the spiritual formation of students. Using descriptive quantitative and qualitative survey methods, the researcher gathered data on the learners, given the different factors that might affect their active engagement during school Eucharistic celebrations, such as personal faith and understanding, family and home influence, peer influence, environment and atmosphere, liturgical elements, the role of the celebrant, and emotional and mental readiness. Quantitative data were computed and analyzed using percentages and weighted average mean. Results revealed that there is a significant direct relationship between the identified factors and the active engagement of junior high school learners of Siena College of San Jose, Inc., during the Eucharistic Celebration. Personal faith yielded the highest average, indicating that junior high school learners have a clear theoretical understanding of matters related to their faith, specifically the Eucharist and its liturgical celebration. They are learned on the subject matter as to what it is and how they are affected by it. Among the other factors, the environment and emotional readiness garnered the lowest average. This indicates that the respondents are not emotionally and psychologically attuned to the celebration or may have been experiencing a lot of distractions prior to the said celebration. With this, the school needs to help the students develop their spiritual lives towards maturity until they have a full grasp of themselves and have developed in themselves a sincere relationship with God.
