ABSTRACT
The purpose of our study is to develop a natural air freshener with the use of baking soda to minimize the usage of potentially harmful chemicals found in standard air fresheners. Typical air fresheners usually consist of a handful of chemicals that may pose health risks. Baking soda is known for its odor-neutralizing properties, and the essential oils are used for their pleasant fragrances. A mixture of baking soda and water was prepared and baked to form a solid base, followed by the addition of a few drops of essential oil to provide the desired fragrance. While the baking process succeeded in creating the intended base, the resulting scent was faint and only noticeable within a short range, indicating limitations in its ability to effectively disperse fragrance over larger areas. These findings suggest that while a baking soda-based air freshener is possible, its effectiveness in scent dispersion is limited. Further research is needed to enhance the fragrance's strength to provide a feasible natural alternative to chemical-laden air fresheners.
