Learning from the jungle

This is the story of Annette Herfkens, a woman who survived a plane crash in Vietnam in 1992 and spent eight days alone in the jungle. The article describes how Herfkens used her instincts, mindfulness and acceptance to cope with the loss of her fiance and the other passengers, and how she applied the lessons she learned from the crash to her later life challenges, such as raising an autistic son and dealing with divorce and death. The article also explores Herfkens’ motivation to write a book and a script about her experience, and how she sees the jungle as a beautiful and safe place rather than a place of peril.
