ARM stands for anticipating, recognise (and label) and manage 

You can apply this to problem-solving processes like diagnosis 

Example - safeguarding guidelines 

1. Anticipate child maltreatment (not in the NICE guidance) 

2. Recognise child maltreatment 

3. Manage child maltreatment 

Example - Myocardial infarction 

1. Anticipate MI

Anticipate 

Preparing may involve learning about the topic. 

Mental rehearsals or scripts can help. 

Recognition 

This means being able to give a label (naming) the situation. 

Labelling reduces epistemic injustice. 

Management 

Define the problem. 

Providing alternative solutions. 

Exploring these solutions together as a team.
