Summary of paper

Metacognition has the largest effect on learning outcomes for all students, including below-average students, but 92% of medical students don't know what it is. Rereading, highlighting, and summarization are the most common learning techniques among medical students, but they are the least effective. Metacognition is teachable and essential for self-directed learning.
