Monthly Calendars
Put it in your calendar
To prevent missing deadlines, appointments, and events,
the best thing to do is
to put everything into a monthly calendar
and keep the calendar updated.
Paper Calendars vs. Phone Apps
Paper Calendar
Pros:
You can see the entire month at one time
Writing can better encode the information into your memory
Cons:
You cannot always have it with you to add or change things
Cannot set reminder alarms
Phone Apps
Pros:
You can set up recurring dates and appointments (ex., every week, year)
You usually always have your phone with you
You can set reminder alarms
Cons:
You usually cannot see the events on each day for the entire month at the same time
You can use both.
If you do, you need to remember to make changes to both.
setting up your semester
Step 1: Decide what type of calendar you will use and how many months you will put into it right now
ex., Paper calendar and the 5 months of the semester
Step 2: Enter your information
Personal appointments and events
Your children's appointments and events (if you have children)
Family appointments and events you will attend or need to be aware of
Your school dates (going to tutoring, days off, end of the semester, etc.; classes - test dates, assignment due dates, etc.) Check the syllabus for information specific for each class
Other events
NOTE: If your syllabuses (found in Blackboard) do not list dates or deadlines for assignments and tests, check other areas on your Blackboard under the course (ex., Course Content, Assignments, Quiz/Test, Discussions, Journals, etc.). If you still cannot find the information, contact your instructor.
