More Info on Class Topics

Sometimes going to lectures and reading the textbook is not enough to help you understand a topic you are studying in class. 

When this happens, this is the time for you to search for more information. 

Look for information that is presented in ways that match the topic you are studying and the way you prefer learning - your learning style.

Online

Use your computer's (ex., Google, Bing) or phone's (ex., Safari) search engine or browser to find more information.  

Explore the suggestions that are given. To modify your search, change the order of, add, or eliminate words (keywords) . 

Remember, while Wikipedia is a good source of information, it is not usually deemed a creditable source to quote.

This site is run by a non-profit educational organization, and contains short video lectures on many topics including math, science, computing, history, physics, economics, finance, and US history. There is no charge for use of this website.



YouTube

Use keywords to find tutorials on YouTube. You can save the videos to Watch Later.  

You can download a YouTube app to your phone to watch when you do not have access to a computer.

There are articles, videos, and study guides on many topics.  This has a small fee to use.  

WolframAlpha

A free online service that answers questions and computes answers to problems in many fields of study. 

If you need help in solving a mathematical equation, this site can help. it can provide the solution and take you through the steps in the equation.

Brainfuse is an  online tutoring service that provides: chats with a live tutor; 24/7 help with questions answered with 1 day; writing assistance including having your papers proofed; and more.  There is no charge for these services

To reach Brainfuse, login to your Blackboard.  On the left side under Tools, click Brainfuse.  On the next page, click Brainfuse Tutoring Center.

Pierpont provides free online tutoring on many subjects.  You can meet with a live tutor 24/7.

Your Instructor 

A great resource is the instructor of your class.  Ask where you can find more information on topics with which you are struggling.

To connect with your instructor, after class or by email ask for an appointment or go to your instructor's office hours, which should be listed in the class syllabus.
