Food Tasting: April 2023 Fresh Herbs

Herbs are kind of a big Dill!!

Parsley, thyme, basil, chives, dill, mint, oregano, lemon balm, sage, coriander, lavender, and rosemary, just to name a few! These easy-to-grow flavor bombs are a great salt-free way of adding vibrant smells and flavors to your everyday. Each variety has a unique smell and flavor that can be used to enhance food and beverages, or even add a pleasant aroma to perfumes, soaps, and candles!

Herbs will grow virtually anywhere - they’ll be happy outside in a garden or even inside in a pot or jar placed near a sunny window! Many herbs look like small green bushes, but some have beautiful hues like the purple found in lavender. Growing your favorite herbs at home means you will never run out of these tasty, aromatic garnishes.

Herbs are a great way to elevate the flavor of your favorite food and drink! Add herbs like basil or mint to pasta, veggies, lemonade, or even your favorite fruit salad. When searching for fresh herbs look for vibrantly colored leaves--avoid yellowish or wilted areas. Clean fresh herbs prior to use or freezing. That’s right! You can freeze those leftover herbs so they don’t go to waste. Boost the flavor of your next recipe by adding fresh herbs instead of salt. Check out the table below to see some pro tips when using herbs. Which herb will you try next?!
