Food Tasting: February 2019 Beets

Time to try.... Beets!

Our heart beats for beets! This month, your nutrition educator will be delivering beets for students to try. Beets are a part of the amaranth family and come in many varieties and colors. These nutritional powerhouses are rich in vitamins and minerals, filled with antioxidants as well as fiber and folate. When we say our heart beats for beets - we really mean it! The folate in beets assists in regulating the blood, which in turn lowers risks of inflammation and heart disease.

We often eat beets in salads, and sometimes roasted or pickled - but did you know that you can make them into a delicious hummus as well? Check out one of our quick videos that turns beets into a spread that everyone will enjoy!
