Hello Thursday families!

To the students who have been absent, we've missed you and our class hasn't felt the same without you! I know I speak for the whole class when I say, "we're looking forward to when our class is full again!" Each one of you brings a light to our class!

Today's devotional was centered on Roman 12:12, Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. We watched a short video that can be seen HERE, and talked about Prayer and Action and how important it is to pray, listen, and take action when we talk to God!

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

After our devotional and discussion, we began class with continuing where we left off last week with a review of Lesson 16, Drones, and then jumped into Unit 3. Students were asked what they were most interested in learning within this unit and why: Historical Military Weapons, Gunpowder, Tank, Submarines, Radar & Sonar. Next we recapped Lesson 17 (Historical Military Inventions) as well as Lesson 18 (Gunpowder) before we wrapped up class with a Testing Catapults activity which included flying erasers and targets! We also had just enough time to watch a quick video on How Rifled Barrel Increases Accuracy. Since we only had about half of our class present today, I postponed the Unit 2 (p. 279-311) Table Group Quiz for next week!

AMERICAN HISTORY

Upon returning from the 10 minute break, and our Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Bible, we spent the majority of our class playing a Quiz game on Chapter 23 & 24! Though there was quite the comeback from team two, team one earned an extra hole punch with the most correct answers! Great job, Erin, Isaiah, and Kaiden! We reviewed Chapter 24, How the 19th Century Ended, before watching a super neat video on our National Parks! For those that missed it, please feel free to watch it HERE! I'd love to hear who's visited any of these parks, and/or which one(s) you'd like to go to! Class was then dismissed for a 10 minute break after our closing prayer.

IEW

We opened class with the school announcements and briefly talked about our Read-a-Thon! Students were asked to turn in a copy of their Tracking Sheets today. If your student did not turn one in today, it's not too late! You can email a copy of your tracking sheet to office@brancheshomeschoolacademy.com by the end of the day! Please refer to any links that you may need for the Read-a-Thon in the announcements above! Next, Isaiah, Caleb, and Erin each shared their writing pieces on Peter Pan! It's been great to see the growth in our class's writing! Keep up the good work! The remainder of class was dedicated to reading for the Read-a-Thon. Students listened to a short (non-fiction) story about a lobster diver that was swallowed by a whale and lived to tell about it! (Remind you of anyone in the Bible?) For those that forgot to bring a reading book; they were able to choose one from the few that were brought and read independently for the last bit of class!
