Hello Thursday Families!

Wow, the days are flying by with only one more week before our Christmas break! There are a couple class announcements for next week that I wanted to share. Next week, we will be taking some time to celebrate Christmas together in class with some treats and ornament decorating, as well as a holiday movie! I will be supplying the ornament materials, along with paper plates and napkins. Please have your student bring a food item to share with our class of 10 students! **Please remember that food must be free of nuts

Also, during our IEW class, we will be heading to the Sanctuary at 11:15 for a student viewing of a Christmas performance, along with our December Spirit Rally (reminder: it's Pajama Day!)

Today's Bible verse was “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Luke 2: 14. Before we discussed the meaning of our daily verse, we watched a short video (part 2) of the Story of Christmas; Jesus and the Wise Men.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Today we reviewed Unit 30, on Pendulums and watched a short video on metronomes. How neat is it that we have several musicians in our class who play the piano, drums, and guitar, and have used metronomes? We then breezed through a Unit 5 review before students teamed up for a quiz! Way to go Kaiden, Kaia, Josiah, and Caleb for earning an extra hole punch with your quiz score! Before wrapping up Physical Science, we also reviewed lesson 31 on Machines in History and lesson 32, Machines in Nature.

AMERICAN HISTORY

After our Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Bible, we continued our State Presentations! We learned more about Utah - from Kaiden; Florida - from Kaia; New York - from Hudson; and Hawaii - from Isaiah! I'd like to commend our students for their efforts in learning more about their states and coming to class prepared with interesting and fun facts to share. I think we all learned something new about each of the states presented! Next, we reviewed Chapter 13 as a class and then began a video entitled "Would You Have Joined the American Revolution?" This will be part of their homework as we will as we will have a short debate next week over the material covered in this video! More info about this can be found in the printable homework for this week!

IEW

We began class by going over school announcements and then went into our Neverland paragraphs from homework. Hudson and Kaia shared their writing while Sophia and Kaiden marked off the checklist. Next, we jumped into our next lesson: Swans. We read over the goals for this lesson and reviewed Summarizing a Reference and the Topic Clincher Rule. After reading the source text; Swans, we watched a short video on swans. We reviewed more about the structure of KWO's, locating key words, and then ended class with going over our new checklist item: Quality Adjectives and banned words (big & small). This new checklist item will be a part of all of our IEW writing moving forward!
