Hello Thursday Families!

It was so great to have an almost full class today after having a few students absent! We started off going around sharing our "high's & low's" from either the last week or since they were last in class, while everyone to arrived. I was sure to let students know that they could share both, one or the other, or neither...and whether they decided to share or not was completely ok!

Today's devotional was focused on John 15:5, "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." We watched THIS short video entitled, Jesus, the True Vine and had a discussion about this Bible verse and that when we abide by Christ and stay connected, we can bear fruit!

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

After our devotional and opening prayer, students gathered into 2 table teams to take Quiz 2, Transportation. The table that had the most correct answers won an extra hole punch! Way to go Erin, Hudson, Matt, and Caleb! Next, we reviewed Lesson 19, Tanks, as well as Lesson 20, Submarines, before we did The Advantage of Tracks Activity from our text book. Students were to use clay (we used play-dough!), two spools of thread, craft sticks, and "a heavy book" to see why tracks are necessary for tanks!

AMERICAN HISTORY

Due to the rain (so much rain lately, right?!), the playground was closed during our 10 minute break, so several students stayed in the classroom or enjoyed a snack in the sanctuary. After everyone returned, we began class with the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Bible. Next, we watched a short video on the West Region. Following this, we discussed what students learned or found interesting from Chapter 25, The Wars for World Freedom. We then went over the Review Questions for this Chapter before doing a Close Reading Activity on World War II and worked on a corresponding crossword puzzle! Before class ended, we talked about the Spring Final projects.

IEW

While students were given a few minutes to continue working on their World War II crossword puzzles, I went over the school announcements. We then had Hudson, Isaiah, and Matthew each share their writing compositions on the "Three Billy Goats Gruff." I'd really like to commend students on their ability to transition from writing from a given source text to writing from pictures, as I know several had expressed some challenges that came with this! It's quite a difference than what they were used to, but it's been great to hear more of their own creative details and spins in their writing! Next, we learned more about the new structure of writing: Summarizing Multiple References and also reviewed the GOALS for this week's writing. Before wrapping up class, we also discussed the Spring Final Project for IEW!
