Hello Thursday Families!
It sounds like it was an extra fun and eventful day today with Career Day and the guest speakers! I'm so sorry to have missed it, but thankful that you had Mrs. Ayala as your sub! Here's what she shared for the class recap:
Began class with introductions which included Students sharing their choices for Career Day and why they chose it that specific career!
We then hosted the rest of the school in our classroom for a presentation from Mr. Fidel Nieto, a local Fire Captain, and two of his crew members. In addition to their engaging presentation, they blessed the Students with a sticker, coloring book, and LAFD branded pencil sharpener.
Next we went into the Sanctuary for a presentation by Ms. Megan Bell, where the Students learned about their organs and the work she does as a Transplant Nurse at USC.
Following this informative presentation we enjoyed the Spirit Rally. The highlight was 3 of our Students winning raffle prizes. Congratulations Kaiden, Matthew, and Isaiah. Enjoy those In-N-Out Gift Cards, boys!
After a short recess break we returned to the classroom where Kaiden led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Matthew led us in the Pledge to the Bible, and I shared this devotion on Lent. We discussed what it means to observe Lent and the importance of preparing our hearts for the Lord's resurrection! We talked about fasting, as a continuation of Mrs. Aguero's devotion on the spiritual discipline of fasting, which she shared during Chapel this morning. I challenged the Students to discuss this with their parents and maybe as a family commit to fasting from something this Lent season in order to draw closer to the Lord.
We then reviewed the rules and expectations of our annual Read-A-Thon which kicks off today. All Students went home with an envelope, a reading tracker, a donation tracker, and instructions!
Lastly, we listened to Sophia share about her family's big move to Florida, and I also shared a little about myself, per the Student's request!
We shifted back to Career Day and welcomed Mr. Rivera, a Realtor / Broker / Appraiser who shared some amazing photos of unique homes! He blessed the Students with a Pen/Back Scratcher which the Students loved!
Then we learned how Mrs. Dichosa serves the Lord in her role as Executive Director of global Christian non-profit, Living Room Mission International. Mrs. Dichosa also handed out coloring pages which she asked the Students to return next week so she can send off to LRMI in Kenya!
Our final presenter was Ms. Perez, a Family Nurse Practitioner. In this presentation the Students learned about how she helps people stay healthy and different parts of the body as well as how our body works. The Students also got to use a stethoscope to listen to their heart!
We wrapped up the day with a closing prayer from Josiah, which included prayers of safety and blessings over Sophia and her family.
For next week's class, please bring colored pencils!
