Hello Thursday families!

I hope you all had a restful and joyful holiday break! It was so great to be back in class today!

We began class with an opening prayer and moved into our devotional time (which was a little different than what we've done previously). We wrapped up unit one, Machines & Motion, in our Physical Science textbook and read Psalm 19: 1-14. We took time to relate all that we've learned in science this semester to our trust in God for spiritual and physical law. Students were then given time, while listening to worship music, to free draw whatever they had felt inspired to after reflecting on today's Bible verses and our discussion.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Our devotional was a perfect segway for science class, as we began unit three, Inventions and Technology. We reviewed the topics that we will be learning in this unit, discussed which topic they were most interested to dive into (most chose Entertainment! In second place, was Military Inventions!), and then reviewed lesson one; Printing Press. We then did a printing activity that involved students creating a design, symbol, or text on a sheet of styrofoam to create a type of stamp, and then after using a brayer to spread the ink (we actually used a thin layer of washable paint) on a plate, they stamped their design onto cardstock. See pics below!

AMERICAN HISTORY

Once we returned from our 10 minute break, we opened history class with the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Bible. Students then participated in our debate, "Would you have joined in the American Revolution?" This was a fun way to hear their thoughts and opinions on the topic from different perspectives! Next, we watched a video that recapped what we have learned so far this semester. Lastly, we reviewed Chapter 15, "The Swamp Fox and the General".

IEW

After reading the school announcements, we reviewed the most recent lesson from before the break and dove into this week's study of Lesson 13, Aesop, Author of Fables. Following the review of the source text, we then worked together as a class to complete the exercises on quality adjectives, our new vocabulary words (fable and author), as well as the KWO. We wrapped up class by working in table groups on the Style Practice.
