Happy October! Wow, I can't believe we just wrapped up Week 5! As we're settling into the routine of our classes and getting more comfortable; today we discussed implementing a Behavior Chart/Rewards System that will begin next week! As much as I love the enthusiasm and liveliness of our group, I also want our classes to remain a peaceful (yet still fun) environment that allows for learning and respect for each other. Student's took a vote and were given the choice to have a reward system based on individual behavior, group/table behavior, or whole class behavior - and ultimately the majority chose to be recognized for their individual behavior!

Today’s devotional was centered on the Bible verse, "Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders. Make the most of every opportunity." - Colossians 4:5. Student's shared how they share, or can share, their faith with others, whether that may be through prayer, conversations, or an invitation to church! There are more way to share of course, but these were some great ideas that were mentioned.

Since Physical Science was shortened last week with our Spirit Rally, we played a bit of catch up! We watched a short video on Inclined Planes (click here to watch) and reviewed Chapters 10, 11, 12, & 13! Though there was a good amount of time reviewing the last four chapters, we were also able to squeeze in two different activities. One showed how the difference in the pitch of screws can change both the effectiveness and how much time it takes to actually use! Don’t worry, no power tools were used for this! A couple of cut-out triangles, tape, and two writing utensils was all that was needed. Our second activity served as a great hands-on/visual for the ways that a lever can require more or less effort depending on where the fulcrum (or in this case, the wooden block), is located!

In History we discussed Chapter 4, and watched an interesting (yet short) video on the life of Henry Hudson! If you have about 4 minutes, you can click here to watch! We then went over Chapter 5, The Colonies of the South. Students were then able to test their memories by filling out a map of the Northeastern region. This wasn’t an actual test, but rather an opportunity to see how many states they could remember from their map tracing homework, and if they needed to use their resources (the map they received on the first day of class or their map tracing homework), they were free to do so. We wrapped up our class with introducing our Fall Final Projects. For more information on this, please visit the FINAL PROJECTS tab on your class page! (Projects are due Nov. 29th & Dec. 6th)

IEW was filled with eagerly raised hands! It’s so awesome to see so many volunteers that want to proudly share their writing! Unfortunately, there just isn’t enough time in our short hour of class for everyone to share their paragraphs for "The Four Oxen and the Lioness" and "The Milkmaid and Her Pail”, but for those that we did hear, great job! We then went over the GOALS for Lesson 5, and worked together as a class to create the Key Word Outline for our next fable, “The Mule and His Buyer.”

Many blessings,

Mrs. (Lucy) K
