Hello Thursday Families!

Today we celebrated Valentine's Day and had lots of fun! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing treats for our class party and for the super sweet and thoughtful gifts! Gosh, I'm so grateful to be able to work with each of your kiddos!

The devotional today centered around love (of course!) as we watched a short video about what love is and how the Bible speaks about it. We then discussed the age old question: What is love? See the pic below to read what some of the (one-word) answers were that the students came up with! The Bible verses for the day are 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 - Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

After our devotional and discussion, we reviewed Lesson 10, Internal Combustion Engines and Lesson 11, Automobiles. The class seemed to be pretty divided on how much they liked or disliked these particular chapters! I appreciate their honesty and openness and understand that they may find some chapters more interesting than others, and that's okay! Students then shared their "dream car" homework. Wow, their creativity and consideration of variables was really impressive! Thanks Kaia, Matt, and Hudson for sharing! We followed with a quick video on self-driving cars and a short discussion on this topic as well as electric and hybrid cars!

AMERICAN HISTORY

When we returned from the 10 minute break, we opened class with the Pledge of Allegiance as well as the Pledge to the Bible. Next, we reviewed Chapter 21, The War Between States and learned about Civil War Dolls, also known as "church dolls." We then attempted to make our own with the provided fabric squares, cotton balls, a rubber band, and ribbon. If you'd like to read a bit more about these, feel free to click here for the activity! We spent the remainder of class eating treats and playing games for our Valentine's party!

IEW

Following our second 10 minute break, we went over school announcements and then had five eager students share their Ugly Duckling writings! We also reviewed the goals for this week, the writing from pictures structural model, and wrapped up class with a discussion of this week's vocabulary words: yowl and tame.
