HELLO Thursday Families!

Today's Bible verse was, "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34. We watched a short video on the story of Ruth and Naomi and discussed being thankful even during difficult times. Isaiah gave our opening prayer, (thank you, Isaiah!).

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Today's class began with recognizing the table team that won hole punches from last week's quiz (way to go!), before checking off vocabulary homework. We then reviewed Chapter 23, Third Law in Motion and did an activity on "Experiencing The Third Law," that included a deflating balloon and two skateboards! We wrapped up class with reviewing Chapter 24, Gravity and did another corresponding activity, "Playing with Gravity," that raised the question of what causes a flat piece of paper to fall slower than a heavy book if they were dropped at the same time?

AMERICAN HISTORY

The big focus of today's class was our Class Elections! After we said the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Bible, I collected their quizzes from homework, and then the majority of our class centered on candidates giving their speeches as well as presenting their class seals! We reviewed what becoming a Class Delegate involves, (hint: they will be working together to create our Class Constitution). Next, came time to vote and then the results were in! Congratulations to Kaia and Isaiah, our new class delegates! Thank you to each candidate who took the time to present to our class.

IEW

After a short (and honest) discussion on class expectations, as it was a reoccurring topic brought up in several of the candidates speeches, we moved right into our writing assignment from last week on Belerophon and Chimera. As one student shared their writing, two additional students listened for checklist items such as -ly adverbs, a catchy title, a because-clause, and more. We moved on to Lesson 10; Damon and Pythias and went over the Goals for this chapter. After watching a short video on the story of Damon and Pythias, we read the source text and discussed the story line. We reviewed the new banned words while students shared alternative examples, before going over this week's homework and ending the day!
