Hello Thursday Families!

Can you believe how fast this school year has flewn by?! Next week we will take a bit of time during American History to celebrate Easter, and then we will have a two week break (4/11-4/20)!  Please feel free to bring a nut-free snack to share with the class, if you'd like! We have 9 students in our American History class.

We opened class today with watching a 1 minute video that focused on James 4:17, "If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them." We then discussed as a class what this verse means to each of us and how this applies to our lives when we are faced with knowing what the right thing is to do versus knowing what the right thing is to do and taking that action.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

After our morning devotional and opening prayer, we jumped into reviews on Chapter 24, Sewing Machines and Chapter 25, Modern Appliances. We then shared the data and findings that were collected from the Modern Appliances worksheet. We were all surprised by how many hours modern appliances saves us when broken down by weeks! I was also surprised by how much the time varied per student's findings! We also reviewed Chapter 26, Clocks, before we teaming up into two groups for the Unit 4 Quiz game! This game got pretty intense as the teams were head to head, and ultimately Team 2 took the lead by one point!

AMERICAN HISTORY

After the 10 minute break, we actually wrapped up the Unit 4 science quiz game during the first 10 minutes of American History before the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Bible. We then reviewed Chapter 27, America's Recent Past, read and discussed A Historical Presidential Election on p. 187 of our text, and then wrapped up class with watching a six-minute video on Brainpop about Presidential Elections. We had a class discussion of how the electoral voting process works, and how the popular vote is not what determines who sits in the Oval office as President! I passed back the graded Western Region Quizzes from last week before dismissal and shared that half of the class scored 100%! Next week we will have the US States Final Exam!

IEW

Following the 10 minute break, I went over school announcements. We then had one student share their, "Flying Mythical Creatures" writing composition while another listened for checklist items. We spent a good amount of time with an in-depth explanation of the Spring Final Project and each of the three parts along with their due dates. Please note that Part 1 will be DUE NEXT WEEK! My goal was to help students have a clear understanding of Part one, and to address any questions they may have. We also took time to go around the class and share what students have each chosen for their favorite fable, myth, and fairytale. Lastly, the homework was the reviewed in detail before our closing prayer and dismissal!
